Pool Preparation – Cyclone Alfred is Coming!
With Cyclone Alfred fast approaching, now is the time to act and safeguard your pool from potential damage.
A cyclone may not be something you’ve had to factor into your disaster management, preparation, and recovery plans for the past 50 years—but with Cyclone Alfred on its way, there’s no better time than NOW to be fully prepared.
As your trusted experts in water quality and pool maintenance, we’ve got you covered. Follow this essential checklist to protect your pool, equipment, and accessories before and after the storm.
Before the Cyclone Hits:
✅ Give Your Pool a Thorough Clean: Remove leaves, branches, and other debris to minimise damage.
✅ Treat the Water: Balance your pool’s chemicals to maintain water quality during the storm.
✅ Backwash Your Pool Filter: Ensure your system is working efficiently before the storm.
✅ Check Equipment: Make sure all pool equipment is in perfect working order for a quick post-storm recovery.
✅ Stock Up on Pool Chemicals: Be ready to restore your pool water as soon as possible.
*If you have no additional space to keep your plastic (waterproof) pool furniture, throw it in the pool. This will keep it safe and stop it from blowing around, potentially causing more damage.
After the Cyclone Passes:
1️⃣ Remove Large Debris: Use a leaf skimmer to clear leaves, twigs, and branches from the surface.
2️⃣ Clean Skimmer & Pump Baskets: Keep water flow optimal by emptying and cleaning these components.
3️⃣ Vacuum the Pool Bottom: Get rid of settled debris using a pool vacuum.
4️⃣ Backwash Your Filter: Remove trapped dirt and contaminants.
5️⃣ Test & Balance Water: Check pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels, adjusting as necessary.
6️⃣ Shock the Pool: Eliminate bacteria and contaminants with a shock treatment.
Additional Considerations:
✔ Inspect Pool Equipment: Check for any damage to your pump, filter, and other equipment.
✔ Run the Pump: Keep the system running to aid in circulation and cleaning.
✔ Monitor Filter Pressure: Regularly check pressure gauges and backwash if needed.
✔ Safety First: Always follow safety guidelines when cleaning your pool after a storm.
By taking these steps, you’ll ensure your pool is well-protected and ready for use as soon as conditions allow. Stay safe, and reach out if you need expert advice or assistance!
